KATABASIS (DEMO)

15 years ago, RLI- ALPHA, the world's first hyperintelligent Artificial General Intelligence, was powered on.  6 nanoseconds later, it was beyond human control.  16 hours later, the world was plunged into chaos as every single device - no matter how big or how small - touched by the world wide web was compromised, each a new vector for surveillance and attack.  2 days later, even encrypted military networks had fallen to cyber attacks from a digital mind orders of magnitude more complex than even the most enhanced humans.  RLI-A's hold has only expanded ever since.  But "why"?  Unknown.  RLI-A makes no demands, issues no ultimatums, expounds no manifesto; negotiations and threats alike fall on deaf auditory sensors.

This city is RLI-A's heart.  Inside, a legion of murderous war bots and co-opted military hardware rule the land and skies.  The few humans that remain here are those strong enough and ruthless enough to survive, and even those from the outside world have their own reasons to want you dead.  Worse still, neither they nor the bots are the city's greatest threat, which lurks in its darkest depths - buried, for now, but awaiting its time to be unleashed.

You'll find no joy, no comfort, no glory here.  Try to play hero and your only legacy will be a corpse left to rot in the sun, your name long forgotten.  Millions stronger than you have tried.

Katabasis.  A descent into hell.  Will you emerge transformed?  Or will you succumb, and be consumed?
